Description

R&W Metal Fabricating and Design Inc., located in Paris, Ontario, is a manufacturer of steel fabricated products.

We are currently seeking laser operators to operate either flat (2D) or tube (3D) CNC laser machines and are willing to train the right individual.
The Operator will also assist the General Labourers with area housekeeping, maintenance work, material staging and finished part unloading and sorting. The successful candidate will be a well-organized team player and flexible in his/her role in doing what is best to maintain or increase production throughput.

The Laser Operator must be able to work a regular 43 hour work week, as determined by production needs. Current shifts are as follows (subject to change)
· Day shift 7:00 am – 4:30 pm & 7:00 am - 2:30 pm on Fridays
· Afternoon shift 5:00 pm – 2:30 am & 3:00 pm - 10:30 pm on Fridays

Responsibilities and Tasks:
  • Daily setup and running of laser cutting programs on up to two lasers as outlined by the Laser Production Manager and production schedule
  • Adjust laser settings (e.g. alignment, head change, nozzle change, clean lens, change cut speed, etc.) to achieve the highest quality cut parts
  • Stage raw materials for the General Labourers to load and unload the machines and assist in loading/unloading when required to maintain throughput
  • Direct General Labourers in the sorting of parts into correct locations/skids
  • Troubleshoot errors and perform preventative maintenance of lasers to improve cut quality with minimal lost time and scrap
  • Maintain accurate records of completed programs/jobs, any scrapped parts or issues with laser performance and other records as assigned by Laser Production Manager
  • Check parts with precision measurement equipment (e.g. calipers, micrometer) and record on required inspection sheets
  • Maintain organized workplace - including clean work area, material appropriately organized on floor and shelves, maintain material traceability, parts neatly stacked, tagged, sorted, counted
  • Count and verify completed orders and help prepare products for shipment to customer or another department
  • Monitor gas levels, beam on-time, consumables usage, scrap and report to Laser Production Manager

Skills and Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have the following experience and skills:
  • 1+ Year experience operating a laser machine that cuts parts out of different types of metals
  • Ability to inspect laser cut parts with inspection equipment such as dial calipers, tape measure
  • Lift Truck/Tow Motor/Fork Lift experience (including Propane Cylinder Exchange) an asset
  • Experience using overhead cranes (Vacuum lift experience an asset)
  • Excellent Health and Safety record (safety-minded)
  • Excellent attendance record and punctuality
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to work in a team environment to get the job done

Handling and Physical Requirements:
  • Frequent movement (lifting, carrying, bending, turning and pulling) of material
  • Standing for up to 9 hours per day
  • Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment as per company standards (safety glasses, gloves and steel-toed CSA certified boots)

Compensation:
  • Hourly wage to be determined, commensurate with skill and experience
  • Availability for overtime (subject to production needs)
